Wound and Hyperbaric

When it comes to serving the needs of children with disabilities, the Idaho Elks Rehabilitation Hospital has decades of experience. After all, children were the reason that the Idaho State Elks Association founded the hospital in 1947. Facing the aftermath of a widespread polio epidemic, the Elks quickly converted the spacious former residence of a local physician into the Idaho State Elks Convalescent Home for Children. The hospital’s focus broadened to treat patients of all ages and various diagnoses once the polio vaccine was discovered, however, children remain central to the services we provide today.

Our programmatic approach to treatment utilizes the skills of a highly trained team of clinicians to assist patients’ and families’ problems. Directed by a physician who specializes in rehabilitation, treatment teams utilize the knowledge of physical, occupational and speech therapists as well as the patient’s family. This fully integrated approach produces measurable results that help patients reach their goals.

Your Child in Therapy
You are encouraged to watch your child’s progress in therapy. However, therapy is most beneficial when the child is not distracted. If you wish to observe, please do not bring other children with you as they cannot be left unattended. We know it is sometimes very difficult to leave siblings at home, but our current facility does not provide enough room for siblings without creating distractions for our patients. We appreciate your cooperation in helping your child get the most out of therapy.

Family involvement is essential to recovery and functional improvement. We count on you to participate in your child’s rehabilitation as much as possible. By developing home programs and encouraging your questions, input and feedback, our therapists strive to include you in your child’s success.

Coverage for our Services
Our pediatric services are covered by most insurance companies, state and federal funds and Medicaid.
