Facility Facts [ top ]

The four-story building is approximately 156,000 square feet. Each floor is approximately 39,000 square feet. The structure is equipped with fire-sprinklers throughout and is constructed with non-combustible materials.

A new Robbins Road entrance with traffic control lights was developed off of Fort Street through a cooperative agreement with Ada County Highway District, IERH and neighboring organizations.

There are over 80 concrete caissons that measure 30 feet deep and four feet in diameter that serve as footings to support the 640 tons of steel framework for the hospital.

The building has a 5,000 amp electrical service from Idaho Power.

The four large air-handler units on the fourth floor supply every room in the building with a complete change of air every six to ten minutes.

The building’s primary heating system uses 170 degree geothermal hot water supplied from one of Boise City Public Works’ deep geothermal wells.

The two therapy pools located on the ground floor are heated by geothermal water. The smaller 9,000 gallon pool is heated to a therapeutic temperature of 98 degrees and the larger 50,000 gallon pool is heated to approximately 92 degrees.

Over 150 individual windows and 8,500 square feet of window-wall are located on the exterior of the building.

The building has approximately 600 rooms and over 630 doors.

Four stairways access all four floors. One of the stairways provides access to the roof.

Seven elevators are located in five different locations. Two of the elevators are sized to accommodate patient gurneys.

There is flexible capacity for 68 beds located in 15 private and 23 semi-private rooms. Patients moved into the building the third week of May 2001.

Approximately 380 parking spaces are designated for patients and employees; 50 on-street parking spaces are adjacent to the hospital.

There were over 50 different local and regional companies involved in the design and construction of the new hospital.

The new facility houses one open M.R.I., one digital x-ray unit and one standard x-ray unit, two surgery suites, ten exercise rooms, a pediatrics therapy center, two patient service kitchens and one full service kitchen with a cafeteria.

Cost of the building: $29 million.

Tobacco-free Campus Policy [ top ]

We have joined other Treasure Valley hospitals (St. Luke's, St. Al's, West Valley Medical Center and Treasure Valley Hospital) as a tobacco-free campus.

In order to be in compliance with current Idaho law, as well as to present an image consistent with our healthcare purpose and mission to the community, smoking/tobacco use by employees, patients, physicians, volunteers, visitors, vendors or other contractors is not permitted in any buildings or on the campus of any property owned, leased, operated/overseen by Idaho Elks Rehabilitation Hospital at any time.

We are jointly taking this position and action on this tremendous health issue in order to maintain a safe and healthy environment for all.
